Bubbles Bubbles Everywhere

This is what the University was greeted to Monday morning:

They don't usually have the fountain on (hmm...wonder why), but it was homecoming recently (no football so they have it later in the school year) and they wanted the campus to look nice. The students that did this must have used the good brand of soap because those bubbles just keep bubbling! Even after a heavy down pour of rain and strong gusts of winds that caused the bubbles to dance across campus, when it looked like the bubbles had been beaten, they bounced right back more than ever! I think it is hilarious, but others on campus of course don't share my viewpoint.

A proud University tradition lives on! (You didn't think it was an original did you?)

Texas Hill Country Travel

My husband and I had made plans to travel all over Texas to visit family and friends this week, but our plans got smushed when the truck had to get unexpected repairs on it. That ended up wiping out what money we had saved to travel.

Lost Maples

So to make up for it we decided to go camping on Sunday night at Lost Maples State Park. It is about an hour from were we live and very pretty. It was drizzling/raining both days, but nothing too bad. We did have a nice time, just kicking back and relaxing. Plus, I got to play with my camera!

rivercrossingLost Maples is known for its fall foliage, but in spring it is just as pretty in it's own way. It has great hiking trails, fishing, camping, and so on. If you get the opportunity to go, I really suggest it!

restroom parking

There is only one thing there that bothered me.... why is it that only the restroom can park there? I don't get it.

Another small trip we took was on Thursday, when we made rounds to buy books and then go to a minor league baseball game. farmer

Before we even got to San Antonio, we had to wait on this guy....not really that uncommon in small town Texas. I am sorry about the dirty windshield that I had to take these pictures through, I didn't want to hang my head out the would have been awkward.

Texas HillsWe live in a very pretty part of Texas. This is just on I-10 East between Kerrville and San Antonio. The bluebonnets are already going away, but we still have all the yellow wild flowers going strong. Again, forgive the dirty windshield that this picture had to be taken through. I eventually convinced my husband to clean it when we stopped for gas.

Interesting sights and signs along our journey:

The town of Welfare, Texas is next to Comfort,Texas....go figure.

ACK! Look out! Imagine dozing on the way and waking up to see this!! Luckily, I was aware of it the whole time and knew it was just a truck being towed.

Seguin watertower

If any can tell me what this is on the top of the water tower in Seguin, Texas, would you please tell me?? We also went to the burial site of Juan Seguin, he helped settle Texas and fought in the battle of the Alamo. It was a beautiful resting place for a hero of Texas.

wiener dog races

Just in case you can't read this, it says,

"Wiener Dog Races
County Fair
Last Weekend in April"

This was sponsored by the Buda, Texas Lion's Club.

To roundup our list of strange town names, we did past through Geronimo, Texas. There is not much to say about it....but there it is.

my dream house If I had a choice I would buy this hotel and convert it into my house. I would leave the outside almost exactly the same (the hotel sign would of course have to go). I love the colors and the shapes. That silly van pulled in right when I took the picture and I didn't get a chance to take another picture. Shoot, maybe I would even leave the bottom as a hotel and let it make money for me!

ballapeno and puffy taco

After all that driving we made it to the San Antonio Missions minor league ball game. I love baseball and especially love getting to watch it live. To the right is the mascots for the Missions. (I cannot take credit for the picture. I found it online.) We have Ballapeno the Jalapeno (aka Bally) and Henry the Puffy Taco (named for Henry's Puff Taco restaurant in San Antonio). I love living in an area where there is a heavy influence of Spanish! Unfortunately, the Missions did not win, be we still had an enjoyable time all day long.

4 foot 9 inches

I just saw a commercial that suggests keeping your kids in a booster seat for riding in the car until they are taller than 4 foot 9 inches.

Gee, I would have been in booster seat until I was probably 14 if that was the case! As it is, I only clear the limit by 4 inches!

New "Limo" School Buses

Along our travels in the great state of Texas we have seen many things, but this one took the cake so to speak. Above is the new "limo" style buses or Mega-buses that one of the nearby school districts are trying out. They figured with these new buses there will only be one engine to upkeep, one bus driver to pay, and they will hold just over 130 students as opposed to just under 50 of the old buses. They of course will have adults who ride the bus to help monitor the students, but this is the only place where money could not be cut. Overall however, this will save the school district many dollars and the taxpayers are ecstatic!

The only problem foreseen at this time is corners, but they are not too worried about it and plan on just letting the buses do the clearing out of all the things in the way as they make the turns. They advise that if you see the bus coming with it blinker on, to just stop and let the bus do it's job. They also want to remind the public that anytime a bus is stopped with the lights flashing and stop sign out that they should come to a complete stop no matter which side of the road they are on.

If you have further questions, please feel free to ask them and I should be able to answer them for you. I was able to get the entire story from the transportation department for the district.

Have a Project Around the House You Need Done?

My co-worker shared with me how her daughter-in-law is getting projects around the house done in a very inexpensive way and fairly quickly too!

Her six year old (soon to be seven) is having a "Garden" birthday party this weekend. She is inviting 15 girls around her same age to come to the party. They will of course have all the birthday staples: cake, hot dogs, soda, etc. The activity they have planned is planting flowers in her backyard! Talk about cheap labor!

She was upfront with the parents as to what the kids would be doing and why. She wanted flowers and could never find the time. The parents were all very happy with the idea and one even suggested that she wanted a "Stucco" party, while another suggested a "Painting" party.

So, the next time you look around your house wondering when you are ever going to get to that project...remember this idea. Even if you don't have kids, surely you know someone who does. Invite them over for a "party" and don't forget to tell them to bring their friends!

When you make it look like a party, do the child labor laws go into effect?

My Cat IS Smater Than Your Honor Student

I am sure that you really want to know this about my cat,but it is rather interesting. Of course, the cat I am talking about is Pan, who else. When we first got him I had been looking into how to teach him to use the toilet. We had a cat before and changing the litter was just gross and it always smelled, so I didn't want to go through that again. I found a website online that showed me how to do it and we have two bathrooms, so it sounded like a good deal.

So over time I did indeed teach Pan how to use the toilet. It was wonderful! Absoultely one of the better tricks I had taught any animal. Well, then Gypsy (our other cat) showed up and didn't go away (it didn't help that my husband started feeding her). So we brought her in and tried to teach her to use the toilet too.

I don't think she is as bright as Pan, she never caught on and I think we gave her a complex about using the litterbox, becuase now sometimes she doesn't. She goes outside often, so it works out.

We had brought the litterbox back because of her and then since she is sometimes indoors we just left it. Well recently I would go into the bathroom to clean the litterbox and (here is where it is probably too much information, but I don't know how else to put it) I would notice that the water in the toilet was yellow.

We hardly ever use that bathroom and of course if we do, we flush (although, sorry sweetie, I did think it was you a few times, it didn't dawn on me the real reason). So the only other conclusion we can come up with is that Pan is using the toilet again for his....umm...simple procedures...shall we say. I think this is awesome, because the nastiest and smelliest part of the whole litterbox is the....umm...simple procedures.

We didn't try to make him use it, he did it all on his own. He is such a smart cat!

Easter Stories

My husband was talking to our oldest niece, Abby, on the phone on Easter Sunday and she asked him if he was going to come to her house today. Frankie told her that he couldn't because we live too far away.

Her response to that was, "It doesn't make me happy. It makes me sad that you don't come. I wait for you everyday."

It makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time. She couldn't have said anything more precious. They are entirely too far away!

It is stinking cold today! See picture. This is not normal and really just not nice! It better be a cooler summer this year if it is going to be this cold in April in south Texas.

We went to a friend's house for Easter Sunday and the pictures below are what we passed on the way. Pretty cool!

Drunken Cola Recipe

I have a recipe for you. If you try it let me know how it taste!

Almost 'Coke'

List of Ingredients
2 T Sugar
1 t Vanilla
1/4 t Cinnamon
1 t Bottled Lime Juice
1 C Club Soda

Mix well and add lots of ice. This will look different than regular cola, but tastes similar. You can vary the lime juice and sugar amounts to suit your taste.
Makes 1 Cup

Now I have a joke for you.

A man and his wife are awakened at 3 o'clock in the morning by a loud pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger stands in the pouring down rain.

"Can you give me a push?" he asks while hanging onto the door frame.

"Not a chance" says the husband -- "It's 3 o'clock in the morning!". He slams the door and returns to bed.

"Who was it?" asks his wife..

"Just some drunk wanting a push" he answers.

"Did you help him?" she asks.

"No, I didn't -- it's three in the morning and raining like crazy out."

"Well, you have a short memory" says his wife. "Can't you remember about three months ago when we broke down on vacation and those two strangers helped us? I think you should help him."

The man sighs and gets dressed and goes out into the pounding rain and calls out into the dark,! "Hello , are you still there?"

"Yes," comes the answer.

"Do you still want a push?" calls out the husband.

"Yes, please!" comes the reply from the dark.

"Where are you?" asks the husband.

"Over here on the swing!" the drunk replies.

Put In My Place By A 5 Yr. Old

I was talking to my neice, Abby, on the phone Sunday and for whatever reason she asked me if I was taking pictures. I was a little confused by the question seeing how I was talking to her on the phone and not doing much else. So I was questioning what she was asking me.

I guess she got tired of me being so stupid and said with a slight sigh at the end, "Are you taking pictures? Yes or No."

What do you say to that!? Well, I guess you say Yes or No! LOL!

97% Spam

At work we were getting tons and tons of spam. Finally technology bit the bullet and bought this expensive software that filters it. After 1 week 1 million pieces of incoming mail were scanned and it turned out that 970,000 (give or take) pieces were spam!

We all knew the problem was bad, but we had no idea it was 97% bad! Now of course none of us get any real email so it makes the day go by slower, but at least I don't have to stop and wonder anymore if I need to drop ten pounds by this weekend, be able to go all night, buy any kinds of medications at a discount price or get certain body parts that I don't even have enlarged. I was starting to suffer from low self esteem although the medication ones did make me pause before hitting the delete key!
