Go Spurs Go!

Friday was a great day! It was after all a Friday, there was a book sale at the library, AND I got 2 free tickets to a San Antonio Suprs game!

Go Spurs Go!

The seats were closer than any we have ever paid for. Here is a veiw of the court. I know you might be thinking that is not very close, but I was happy! Did I mention the tickets were FREE?

San Antonio and the surrounding areas are Spurs crazy. If you live here and you don’t like the Spurs...well it is better to just not say anything.   In fact, they start them young with this addiction.

I got to see all of my favorite players!

#21- Tim Duncan; #9- Tony Parker; #20 Manu Ginobili; #12-Bruce Bowen

During the second half all the fans that were sitting behind the basket that the Timberwolves shot at were given long ballons to wave as distractions when the team was trying to make a basket.

The Spurs played the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have an awful record, so it was almost a given that the Spurs would win, and they did.  So it was a great Friday all around!  I hope you have a great begining of April!

What About Me?

Tisha tagged me to post more random facts about myself...yeehaw!!! So here I go, but rest assured I will not tag anyone because....well let's face one I ever pick plays along...well, Lori does, but she has other things to take care of now.

1.) I am currently reading 4 books right now. Bible, Italian Grammar, a daily inspirational, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night

2.) I used to get my books from here (please note the name), but lately I have been getting them from other sources (Book Mooch, thrift stores, book sales):

3.) I am watching men's figure skating on TV right now because Frankie stopped on that channel to watch it. I can't explain beyond that.

4.) I have started to sew more. I am loving it. I showed a preview of a project earlier (bottom of blog). Here are the full views. I made these skirts for Lori, for her new baby girl, Tarja. Who is simply adorable and the reason Lori doesn't have as much time to write random facts.

5.) I love going to thrift stores! You never know what you will find.

6.) I love to take pictures of signs that I find funny.

7.) Now I am stuck watching fake wrestling because that is where Frankie stopped....I don't know which is worse....this or the ice skating.

8.) I ran out of pictures to post....sorry.

9.) I am not really all that sorry.

10.) I can be ornery when I want to.

No Name Of His Own

Sign seen at Hastings in Kerrville, Texas:

If this is saying that Dale Howard is Jim Reeves' cousin, then it saddens me that they felt the need to add that last line. Can't Dale try to make it on his own? But if Dale Howard's music is in store and then separate from that on Saturday at 6 PM Jim Reeves' cousin will be at Hastings, well then, that just makes me more sad. They couldn't even tell us the guys name! They just started boasting that it is Jim Reeves' cousin. What a shame....that poor cousin of Jim. What is sooooo great about Jim Reeves anyways??

P.S. This is file under humor, just so you know.

Have a good one!

A Simple Equation Of Nature

Here is a simple equation:

Wind + Dirt + Rain = Muddy Rain

It is gross, it is nasty, it covers everything, but it isn’t going to kill you and it is not even toxic.

This was something that happened yesterday in San Antonio and surrounding regions. People were freaking out! They thought it was something toxic and they were scared. One lady even called the news station to ask if it was acid rain. Most had never seen anything like it. Here is a link to a video. (I couldn't get it embedded here and sorry about the commercial.)

I grew up in west Texas and this happened every so often. I guess none of these people had ever been to west Texas! :)

Have you ever seen this? Would it freak you out if you haven't?

Green Everywhere

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Did you wear your green today? I did, thank goodness I actually remembered! Not that it REALLY matters, but it is fun.

I think our tree even knew it was St. Patrick's Day. I swear I looked at it yesterday and it was bare. Here it is today:

See, even my tree wished you a Happy St. Patty's day!

Pi Day

I hope everyone had a Happy Pi Day on Friday! I got to wear my pi shirt!

It was a beautiful day with the temperature in the high 80's and there were signs everywhere of spring.

Frankie and I decided to go to the river to hang out.

We ate some take out for supper and played backgammon.

It was very relaxing and great to get to spend some non-TV time with my husband. We plan on doing it more often. So Friday was wonderful all the way around. Saturday was good too. I was able to finish up a sewing project. I can only give you a sneak peak for right now.

All for now! Have a great rest of the weekend!

Three Fruits Left

I have written several post about the fruits of the Spirit that are talked about in Galatians 5:22-23. A more complete text is 19-25:

"The wrong things our sinful self does are clear: doing sexual sins, not being pure, doing morally bad things, worshiping false gods, doing witchcraft, hating, making trouble, having jealousy, being very angry, being selfish, making people mad at each other, making divisions, having envy, being drunk, having wild and wasteful parties, and doing other things like this. I warn you now like I warned you before: The people who do these things will not be in God's kingdom. But the Spirit gives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. There is no law that can say these things are wrong. Those people who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified (killed) their own sinful selves. They have given up their old selfish feelings and the evil things they wanted to do. We get our new life from the Spirit. So we should follow the Spirit."

Three fruits left.

Faithfulness is the act of holding true to our commitments to God and to others. The unfaithful person is talked about this way in Proverbs 25:19: "Never depend on the faithless during times of trouble. That person is like a hurting tooth or a crippled foot. {He hurts you when you need him most.} " That is NOT how I want people to think of me! The easiest way prove your faithfulness doesn't come from what you say but what you do. It isn't even the big tasks that show your faithfulness. It is rarely glorious tasks. It is doing little things for others and following through on the things you said you would do. Faithfulness matters.

Two fruits left.

Gentleness is often referred to in the Bible as meek. (Matthew 5:5 - Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.) Unfortunately, the idea of being gentle seems out of place in our world. It is seen as a sign of weakness. But in reality gentleness is one of the better qualities a person can have. When there is trouble in life how we react to it is very telling. Instead of instant anger a gentle answer turns away anger. The Bible tells us in many places that we should do all things in gentleness. (Ephesians 4:1-3, Colossians 3:12-13, I Peter 3:15, and Galatians 6:1) Gentleness matters.

One fruit left.

Self-control is the power to do and the power to not do. We should eat properly. We should exercise. We should love others. There is MUCH we should do, self-control is what helps us to do these (....errr....well for the most part!). Self-control also is what keeps us from doing what we should not. Is there anything in this life that you are not able to say no to? If so these are the things that you are a slave to. We should not be a slave to the things of this world. It is hard though, it is very hard. We live in a society of over indulgence. We are bombarded constantly by ads telling us we have to have the next best thing and that we are not good enough without these things. Self-control tells us we are just fine without all the extra. In Proverbs 25:16 there is a very simple verse that speaks volumes! It says: "Eating too much honey can make you sick." Self-control matters.

All fruits accounted for! I need to work on some of these in my life. I want to be aligned with what God wants from me. I don't want you to list them, but think on these. Are there any that you need to work on?

I will work on mine and you work on yours and little by little we will be happier and healthier in life and with God. This will spread to those in the world and you never know who you will make an impact on!

Have a wonderful day!

Texas Primaries

Before I start...

This is not a political blog. You are entitled to your opinion as I am mine. I don't want to argue or discuss politics. Please remember this. Thank you for your attention. Now on to the program.

I voted in the Texas primaries yesterday. Look at me using my rights as an American. Yeah me! Here are the Republican results as reported by CNN:

Notice how many votes Huckabee received. Notice that it ends in 1...that was me! That was my vote. Had I voted for anyone else that would have been a zero. Hehehe! I am giddy with delight to see my vote and to know that everyone in the world can see MY vote as well. (Hold your tounge...) I realize it was a lost cause, but he matched best with my beliefs. Unfortunately, there is not one candidate who I agree with 100%.

Before I went into the community building to vote, I saw a poster board taped to the side of the building with these words on it:

I promise English is my mother tongue, but I take things at face value. This sign threw me for a loop. My first thoughts were that it was telling me to use the lower ramp on the other side of the building. I realize that the word use was not there, but I figured who ever wrote it thought that it would be understood. So I started to go to the other side of the building, but then I stopped. I had never had to use any other door before to get into this building. I stood there for a second trying to decide what to do. I was the only one there at the time so there was no one to watch or ask.

Then I thought that maybe the sign was telling the people who rent the building for various functions that when they were done to be sure to lower the ramp on the other side of the building. So the word "you" was implied, but couldn't apply to me since I was just going there to vote. I realize now the illogical of that...but I got throw off in the beginning and was just trying to think of all possibilities.

I decided to go up the ramp in front of me to the door that I normally use to see if it was locked. If it was then I would know to go to the lower ramp on the other side of the building. The door was opened and I went in and voted. After I left I called my husband and told him about the sign. He just sighs/laughs at me and tells me what the sign meant. For those of you who, like me (and I am hoping there is at least one other), need it deciphered, it meant that there was a lower ramp on the other side of the building if you so needed it as the one on this side of the building was rather steep. Maybe too much to put on a poster, but it would have been very clear!

So, why would I tell you of my stupidity with a simple sign (and I know some of you may be thinking, in your opinion, of the stupidity of my vote [Ha! Beat you to it!])? The way I figure it is that if I can't laugh at myself then I am going to go through life being bitter and I want to avoid that. Plus, if I can make you smile then you get some relief from stress, even if it is just a small amount.

I help me, help you!

One more thing....this just came through my inbox: (be opened minded and see the humor!)

Dear Abby:

I am a crack dealer in Beaumont, Texas, who has recently been diagnosed as a carrier of HIV virus. My parents live in Fort Worth . One of my sisters lives in Pflugerville and is married to a transvestite.

My father and mother have recently been arrest ed for growing and selling marijuana. They are financially dependent on my other two sisters, who are prostitutes in Dallas .

I have two brothers: one is currently serving a non-parole life sentence at Huntsville for the murder of a teenage boy in 1994. My other brother is currently in jail awaiting charges of sexual misconduct with his three children.

I have recently become engaged to marry a former prostitute who lives in Longview She is a part-time "working girl."

All things considered, my problem is this: I love my fiance and look forward to bringing her into the family. I certainly want to be totally open and honest with her.

Should I tell her about my cousin who supports Hillary Clinton for President?

Worried About My Reputation

Have a great day!

Oh My Goodness!

“Be sincere in your love for others. Hate everything that is evil and hold tight to everything that is good.” - Romans 12:9-

Everyone wants to be treated good and to have things in their lives that they consider good. Almost everyone wants others to think they are good and they strive to do good things. Good is a good thing! :)

The word good can have many different meanings. A meal that was good is not the same as a man who is good. I want to focus on the word good when it is in the context of human actions. I believe that in the passage above, it too is talking in context of human actions.

Goodness is something that comes from the inside, but it is shown on the outside. If you have mean thoughts about a certain person it is impossible for you to show goodness to them with your actions. Luke 6:45 says: “Good people do good things because of the good in their hearts. Bad people do bad things because of the evil in their hearts. Your words show what is in your heart.”

We can say that goodness is good because it reflects God. To really know goodness and see it action you need to know God and the scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16-17: “Everything in the Scriptures is God's Word. All of it is useful for teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live.”). To know God take to heart the following verse from Colossians 1:10: “Then you will live a life that honors the Lord, and you will always please him by doing good deeds. You will come to know God even better.”

So now we understand the definition for goodness and we know where to see an example. Here is how to take on the role of being good yourself. (Each of these comes from Romans 12:9-12)

  • Love each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you do yourself.
  • Never give up. Eagerly follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord.
  • Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying.
  • Take care of God's needy people and welcome strangers into your home.
  • Ask God to bless everyone who mistreats you. Ask him to bless them and not to curse them.
  • When others are happy, be happy with them, and when they are sad, be sad.
  • Be friendly with everyone. Don't be proud and feel that you are smarter than others. Make friends with ordinary people.
  • Don't mistreat someone who has mistreated you. But try to earn the respect of others, and do your best to live at peace with everyone.
  • Don't try to get even. Let God take revenge. In the Scriptures the Lord says, "I am the one to take revenge and pay them back."
  • The Scriptures also say, "If your enemies are hungry, give them something to eat. And if they are thirsty, give them something to drink. This will be the same as piling burning coals on their heads."
  • Don't let evil defeat you, but defeat evil with good.

By doing the above you will be seen as a good person in the sight of man and in the sight of God. That is where I want to be I hope you do to.

Have a great day and as my mother always says, “Be good, you don't have anything else to do!” :)
